Best ways to improve your wellbeing when you have a demanding job

People think you can’t become successful in your job if you focus on your wellbeing.

But nothing could be further from the truth.

Highly effective people are great at both.

Taking care of your wellbeing is important to create a fulfilling, successful and

sustainable life. And feeling good mentally and physically will make you more productive.

If you want to stay productive but have been experiencing lack of focus and low morale I suggest you a few mental wellbeing tips that work:

1. Connect with people to improve your wellbeing:

Talking to other people and listening to their stories help us disconnect from our own worries. It is a simple way to let out whatever you need and bring in a little humour or empathy to our task-filled days…

2. Get breaks: Get up the chair every 30 minutes.

Stretching is good for your muscles. And the oxygen you breath will raise your sense of wellbeing.

3. Increase time outdoors: Any excuse is good.

Researches show that being outdoors – especially in green areas – helps relax your brain, eliminate toxins and release. You can pick any time of the time that best suits you and you will feel recharged.

Vitamin D is also a very good reason to go out and get some sun.

4. Different environments:

It is useful setting different places for work and time off. You will feel like you are in another space and where you can practice wellness.

5. Transition rituals:

Picking one easy routine to do every time your work day is up is a reminder for you to shift mode. Easy one would be closing your laptop, stretching, putting music on or lighting a candle. Some breathing or meditation would support the transition smoothly.

6. Set a strict time to finish:

Avoid working long hours. It will help preserve your energy and enable you to welcome other activities.

Disconnect the work phone or email notifications and not taking out of hours calls (if you can). It can be the way forward to set clear boundaries.

7. Practice forgiveness:

The mindset or attitude you take towards things is an important part.

Don’t blame yourself when something doesn’t go well. We are humans and we make mistakes. Take responsibility and learn something for next time.

Now you are going to think ‘that sounds great’ and leave all motivated but let me stop you there.

Change requires action. So how are you going to remind yourself to ensure you don’t forget about it?

Write it down, set reminders a post it or a screensaver and keep reminding yourself why you want that change.

*Bonus tip: As humans, we operate by rewards, so remember appreciating your progress and rewarding yourself is a key motivation to set the change.

How are you going to reward yourself?
